Description

Chicago: Antoinette's School of Fancy Cookery, 1936. First edition. Ring-bound, in stiff textured vinyl covers. 83 pp. Near fine. Prior owner name on first page and two annotations on page 11, else unmarked. "Before Julia Child, there was Antoinette Pope" (Judy Hevrdejs, Chicago Tribune, August 5, 2009). With her husband, Francois, Antoinette would become widely known for later cookbooks. This early effort, produced out of her Chicago cooking school, provides a simple and charming appetizer for what was to come. After a lovely frontis picture, Antoinette writes in her Preface: "This book is affectionately dedicated to the hundreds of women that have attended my classes in the past five years, who, through their loyalty and appreciation, have been my greatest encouragement to carry on this work. I sincerely hope that this little book will act as a constant reminder of the many pleasant hours we spent together during our school work, as the memory of those eager and enthusiastic faces will always be my inspiration".

Our goal is for you to be, at the very least, satisfied with the condition of the book you receive, preferably delighted. To that end, we are generally conservative in our descriptions. You can expect the book you receive to be as described or better.

Unless indicated otherwise, any book described as a "First edition" is also a first printing. Books previously printed but in their first printing of the edition described are designated as "First thus" (or "First American edition", etc.).

Returns are accepted at any time, for any reason (or no reason) and are refunded in full, including return shipping. We accept responsibility for any book damaged or lost in shipping.
